(New Orleans – October 20, 2021) – The annual application process for children enrolling in NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) for the 2022-2023 school year will open Monday, Nov. 1, 2021.
Now called the NOLA-PS Common Application Process (NCAP), this process allows families to apply to schools online, anytime during the Main Round period, which closes on Jan. 21, 2022.
Families have the entire 12-week Main Round application period to apply – earlier submissions are not given more weight in the student-to-school matching process. Matches will take place for all applicants after the Main Round period closes.
Families can explore schools, learn about the common application process, and complete the NCAP at nolapublicschools.com. Click on the "ENROLL" button on the homepage, to access the NOLA-PS unified enrollment information center: Enrollnolaps.com. This site will be available on Nov. 1.
New this year, the NOLA-PS common application process now includes all 76 NOLA-PS affiliated schools, in addition to publicly funded early childhood programs, publicly funded K-12 scholarship programs at private schools, and six public schools authorized by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).
"With all our schools participating through our common application this year, we are 'All In' for our students and their families," said NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis. "We want to make the application process informative, clear, and easy to use for everyone joining our great school community – because we are stronger, together."
Schools with additional admissions criteria, including Lusher Charter School, Lake Forest Elementary School, and Benjamin Franklin High School, are joining the common application process this year. Families interested in these schools will still need to meet each school's additional admissions criteria, including an eligibility assessment. NOLA-PS aligned the main round enrollment application cycle to families' needs to ensure every child and every school can receive school match results no later than March 31, 2022.
The common application process is central to the NOLA-PS unified enrollment system and aligned to our commitment that every child, every day can participate in a high-quality program that fosters their individual capabilities.
Using the "Enroll" button at nolapublicschools.com, families can research schools and submit an application if their child meets any of the following criteria:
- The student is new to New Orleans or new to public schools.
- The student turns 5 by Sept. 30, 2022 and therefore is required to attend Kindergarten.
- The student is seeking to transfer from their current school to a new school for the 2022-2023 school year.
- The student is in a transitional grade, meaning their current school does not offer their expected grade in the next school year. This category mostly applies to 8th grade students who must choose a new high school.
- The student is enrolled in a program that requires an application to continue. This information will be communicated to you by your child's school.
Families are encouraged to explore schools and give themselves enough time to participate in additional assessment requirements, if needed.
The NCAP does provide families with specific priorities for student placement based on additional factors, including the current enrollment of a student's sibling and geographic proximity to the school.
Before submitting an application for the 2022-2023 school year, NOLA-PS encourages families to research school choices. To assist in this process, we provide several resources at Enrollnolaps.com:
- School finder: K-12 schools and Early Childhood school profiles provide information on school location, grades served, school performance, and extracurricular activities.
- Guidance for Families: Additional online videos and interactive resources are available and can assist you in making smart school choices, filling out the NCAP, and more.
Families that do not participate in the Main Round are welcome to participate in the second round of the application process, although it is important to note that some schools may have full rosters from the Main Round. The second round is scheduled to open one week after the Main Round results are released.
