(New Orleans – March 22, 2022) — NOLA Public Schools and its community of schools have embarked on a plan to best optimize its highest quality facilities for students after recent data showed New Orleans and Louisiana as a whole can expect smaller student bodies in the coming years.
Today, NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. announced his decision to re-site three charter management organizations as a first step in what will be a multi-year project of District optimization.
The following schools will move their operations to the following facilities for the 2022-2023 school year:
- Audubon Elementary School (3rd -8th grades) will occupy and operate Live Oak Elementary (21328 Constance Street)
- Morris Jeff Middle School (5th-8th grades) will occupy and operate Drew Elementary (3819 St. Claude Avenue)
- EQA: New Orleans Accelerated High School will occupy and operate Gaudet Elementary (12000 Haynes Boulevard)
"These recommendations were made after careful review and evaluation of all applications to determine the optimal qualified operator for each facility," said Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. "I believe these schools will maximize the use of the campuses and continue to fulfill the District's mission of providing a high-quality education for the students it serves."
These schools applied to occupy the available facilities through the District's 2021-2022 NOLA-PS Facility Siting process. When school facilities become available, the district creates a set of eligibility standards and siting objectives to meet the needs of the district.
For this facility siting process the District created the following siting objectives. A successful proposal will:
●Increase the overall quality of the District's facility portfolio.
●Ensure the District's highest quality facilities are occupied and utilized to their full potential.
●Enhance the overall experience of students.
NOLA-PS looks forward to working with the schools to ensure a smooth transition for students and staff to the new facilities for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.
