K-12 NOLA-PS’ Common Application Process (NCAP) for the 2023-2024 School Year Opens Nov. 7
(New Orleans – November 2, 2022) – The annual application process for children in grades Kindergarten - 12th enrolling in NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) for the 2023-2024 school year will open Monday, Nov. 7, 2022.
The NOLA-PS Common Application Process (NCAP) allows families to apply to schools online, anytime during the Main Round period, which closes on Jan. 20, 2023. Matches will take place for all applicants after the Main Round period closes.
Families can explore schools, learn about the common application process, and complete the NCAP at NOLAPublicSchools.com. Click on the "Enroll Now" button on the homepage, to access the NOLA-PS unified enrollment information center: enrollnolaps.com. This site will have updated information about the Main Round available on Nov. 1.
This year, the NCAP includes all 71 NOLA-PS affiliated schools, six public schools authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), and publicly funded early childhood programs.
New this year is the start date for the Early Childhood Main Round application. It will begin in February after the K-12 Main Round ends.
"Enrollment has been a common topic throughout my ABC Tours, and I'm looking forward to implementing process improvements for K-12 enrollment," said NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams. "In addition, I'm excited to announce we will have a new parent application experience for Birth - PK4 in the Spring of 2023. Ultimately, we're working toward making the application process informative, clear, and easy to use for everyone joining our great school community."
Families interested in schools with eligibility criteria are still required to meet each school's additional admissions criteria, including an eligibility assessment. Similar to last year, NOLA-PS aligned the main round enrollment application cycle to families' needs to ensure every child and every school can receive school match results no later than March 31, 2023.
The common application process is central to the NOLA-PS unified enrollment system and aligned to our commitment that every child, every day can participate in a high-quality program that fosters their individual capabilities.
Using the "Enroll" button at NOLAPublicSchools.com, families can research schools and submit an application if their child meets any of the following criteria:
●All students who turn 5 years old by Sept. 30, 2023, must enroll and attend Kindergarten per state law!
●The student is new to New Orleans or new to public schools.
●The student is seeking to transfer from their current school to a new school for the 2023-2024 school year.
●The student is in a transitional grade, meaning their current school does not offer their expected grade in the next school year. This category mostly applies to PK-4 and 8th grade students who must choose a new school.
●The student is enrolled in a program that requires an application to continue. This information will be communicated to you by your child's school.
Families are encouraged to explore schools and give themselves enough time to participate in additional assessment requirements, if needed. Families can see which schools have eligibility criteria that require next steps on enrollnolaps.com.
The NCAP does provide families with specific priorities for student placement based on individual factors, including the current enrollment of a student's sibling and geographic proximity to the school.
Before submitting an application for the 2023-2024 school year, NOLA-PS encourages families to research school choices. To assist in this process, we provide several resources at enrollnolaps.com:
●Explore Schools tool (nola.ps/explore): K-12 schools and Early Childhood school profiles provide information on school location, grades served, school performance, and extracurricular activities.
●Guidance for Families: Additional online videos and interactive resources are available and can assist you in making smart school choices, filling out the NCAP, and more.
Families who do not participate in the Main Round are welcome to participate in subsequent enrollment opportunities, although it is important to note that some schools may have full rosters from the Main Round.
