NOLA-PS to Lift Universal Masking Recommendation in K-12 Schools Next Week
(New Orleans – March 18, 2022) — Based on federal, state, and local guidance for masking in school settings, NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is lifting its universal masking recommendation for K-12 beginning Monday, March 21st.
Levels of community spread have remained low, as defined by the CDC.
"I am excited for our students and staff to be able to interact with each other in a more natural way and return to a sense of normalcy," said Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. "For anyone who feels more comfortable wearing a mask in school, we encourage them to continue to do so."
This new guidance goes into effect more than two weeks post Mardi Gras and aligns with the expiration of the state's COVID-19 emergency orders.
The current COVID testing programs for students at schools will continue. Should families have questions, we encourage them to reach out to their individual school for more information.
